The Zeitgeist Movement Brings Out 'The Zeitgeist Movement Defined: Realizing a New Train of Thought'
The Zeitgeist Movement announced the release of its official publication of observations and goals, The Zeitgeist Movement Defined: Realizing a New Train of Thought.
According to a release, this impeccably sourced and highly detailed work argues for a large-scale change in human culture, specifically in the context of economic practice. The dominant theme is how the current socioeconomic system governing the world at this time has severe structural flaws, born out of primitive economic and sociological assumptions originating in our early history, where the inherent severity of these flaws went largely unnoticed.
However, in the early 21st century, the group said these problems have risen, taking the consequential form of increasing social destabilization and ongoing environmental collapse. Yet, this text is not simply about explaining such problems and their root causality - It is also about posing concrete solutions, coupled with a new perspective on social/environmental sustainability and efficiency which, in concert with the tremendous possibility of modern technology and a phenomenon known as ephemeralization, reveals humanity's current capacity to create an abundant, post-scarcity reality.
While such views have been misunderstood as "utopian" or fantasy, this text walks through, step by step, the train of thought and technical industrial reordering needed to update the global society (and its values) to enable these profound new possibilities. Also, while this text can be read strictly from a passive perspective and is academic in form, it was created to be used as an awareness or activist tool.
In form the work is divided into four parts and 18 essays. These, as described by the Company, include:
(1): Overview:
The opening essay presents a broad description of TZM's history and the basic reasoning for the changes sought.
(2): The Scientific Worldview:
The essay explores how the development of the scientific method has altered human perception and the critical importance of its recognition and larger order application, specifically with respect to the social system.
(3): Sourcing Solutions:
The essay hones the reader in on what it means to think deeply about problems and causality. The notion of "root cause" and "root purpose" is discussed at length.
(4): Logic vs. Psychology:
Focusing on perception and culture, this essay discusses human psychology in contrast to objective reasoning. While controversial, the main issue relates to how new ideas can conflict with a person's values, bypassing logical understanding.
(5): The Case for Human Unity: This essay explores the reasoning for a unified global society along with tracing the source of national divisions and propensities for conflict. A relevant point is made regarding the advancement of technological warfare and how the dangers of keeping biased economic boundaries as we have could lead to rapid destruction as time moves forward.
(6): The Final Argument - Human Nature: This essay lays to rest common false assumptions of "human nature" and how it is all too often used as a scapegoat to justify an inflexibility regarding such social change.
(7): Defining Public Health: This essay presents evidence to show how the current market-mode of economic behavior is causing vast distortions in public health across the world.
(8): History of Economy: This highly detailed essay gives an historical account of major figures and periods in humanity's economic history, tracing root propensities.
(9): Market Efficiency vs Technical Efficiency: This essay argues the difference between true scientific (or technical) efficiency and the business practice of "market efficiency," showing how the latter actually works against true economic optimization.
(10): Value System Disorder: This essay explores how the market mindset and the competitive/business oriented gaming strategy inherent to capitalism creates psychological distortions in the human being which are both anti-social and unsustainable.
